As you consider the spiritual atmosphere across the earth, there seems to be a lack of spiritual urgency. The average believer does what they want, when they want, at whatever time they want. Making the false assumption that the spiritual clock to the final countdown of the end of days has not begun and is not ticking their life away on this earth. The truth is that every person breathing air has one life on this earth to allow God to use for His glory. Anything you are going to do for God, you must do it now! It is appointed for every person to die once and stand before God to give an account for their life.
If their sins have been washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, heaven awaits them, but if their lives are bound by sin and selfishness, hell awaits them. Nobody is promised tomorrow! At any moment, your earthly body could expire, and your spirit and soul will separate from your human body. The only thing that will matter at that moment is whether or not you lived a life surrendered to Jesus Christ on this earth.
Eternity is secured in heaven when Jesus Christ is Lord of all, and if He is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all! At the moment of physical death, rest assured your education will not matter; your finances will not matter; your retirement will not matter; and your possessions will not matter. It will all come down to answering the question of whether or not you lived driven for heaven or driven for hell, and how you lived will determine your eternity. There will be no eternal makeup test, no “do overs” or spiritual extra credit that can right the wrongs of living for yourself instead of living for Jesus! There is no coming back to earth to fulfill the God-given dreams that you knew echoed in the chambers of your heart you ignored. The dreams, visions and prophetic words are stacking up in the lives of so many believers, and they demand immediate action for them to be fulfilled. We must redeem the time!
Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “See then that you walk carefully, not as fools, but as wise men, making the most of the time because the days are evil.”
Hebrews 9:27-28 says, “As it is appointed for men to die once, but after this comes the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to save those who eagerly wait for Him.”
1 Corinthians 3:13-15 says, “Each one’s work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done. If anyone’s work which he has built on the foundation endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss. But he himself will be saved, still going through the fire.”
Spiritual urgency is the discernment that can see the need for swift action and persistent quality of living as a believer in Jesus Christ. It will be a frightening moment to stand before God for some who realize that urgency to be driven by eternity on this earth could have changed everything! I live my life with daily urgency to be driven by eternity. Every sermon I preach, I preach like it’s my last!
I’ll never forget a dream I had. As I was driving on a beautiful sunny day, I heard the sound of the loudest trumpet blast that echoed across every mountain and valley. I was Immediately caught up from the car as my spirit body pressed through the ceiling of my vehicle. As I was propelled into heaven, I remember the fear of the Lord gripped my heart about seeing God face to face. I looked around as my life played on screens 360 degrees around me. As I was waiting to see something bad on the screen, I had a sudden sense that all my sin had been washed away by the blood of Jesus. The next major sound I heard was the voice of Jesus Christ declaring, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”
Are you living your life with urgency to be driven by eternity?
