There seems to be a misconception on the earth concerning the will of God. Many believe that the will of God is automatic as if it happens regardless of how people live their lives. This deception could be no further from the truth of what is revealed in the Word of God. Just because God has an amazing plan for your life does not mean that His plan will manifest in your life just because you are alive on planet Earth and you are daily inhaling and exhaling. Your existence does not trigger the will of God for your life but rest assured your Christ conduct will shift your life into the will of God. Allow me to give you 5 things revealed in the Word of God that will certainly be impactful in propelling you into the will of God for your life.

1. THE WILL OF GOD MUST BE LIVED OUT

How you live your life on this earth could certainly affect whether or not you miss things that God has planned for your life. The Word of God calls you a pilgrim which means that you are just through this place called Earth awaiting your spiritual final destination called heaven. While you are here your conduct must be honorable. It says that the will of God is so good that you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. God wants you to posture yourself with honorable conduct on the earth

1 Peter 2:11-16 says, Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lords sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men— as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.”

2. THE WILL OF GOD IS ABOUT THE SALVATION OF MANKIND

Many times when we consider the will of God our mind goes to the place of thinking about all the things that God wants to give us. The reality is how we conduct ourselves concerning being a witness to the lost impacts whether or not we are walking in the will of God. God’s will for our lives is that we become a walking, living, breathing advertisement of the kingdom of heaven and share the Gospel of Jesus with those who are lost and on their way to hell. Notice in this verse that God’s will is that not any should perish but that all come to repentance. We must participate in soul-winning as the will of God for our lives.

2 Peter 3:9 says, The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

3. THE WILL OF GOD IS THAT YOU DO NOT CONFORM TO THIS WORLD

Knowing the will of God for your life requires that your conduct not be like the conduct of this world. The word conform means to pattern yourself after the world. It means to use the world as an example of how you live instead of using the Word of God as your standard. There is no chance that you will know God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will for your life if you live your life using the world as an example. You must come out from among this world and separate yourself allowing the Word of God to govern, guard, and guide your heart.

Romans 12:1-2 says, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

4. THE WILL OF GOD IS HOLINESS AND SANCTIFICATION

The will of God is made manifest in your life and requires that your conduct be a life of holiness and sanctification. To be holy means to be set apart. I have preached many times that if a person’s lifestyle looks like hell, acts like hell, talks like hell then they are going to hell. We must live set-apart lives of sanctification where we allow the Holy Spirit to have access to convict us, correct us, and conform us to the image of Jesus Christ. As these things are happening sanctification is taking root in our hearts which is the will of God.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-6 says, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.”

Romans 8:29 says, “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren”

5. THE WILL OF GOD IS THAT YOU ABIDE IN GOD

The will of God requires that you abide in God. The word abide in Greek means that you will remain, wait, and stay in God. The will of God also requires that you allow His Word to remain, wait, or stay inside of you. When you abide in Him and Him in you then you can ask what you desire and it will be done. The word desire in Greek will. Abiding in God and His Word in you causes your will and the will of God to align.

John 15:7 says, If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

Psalm 119:10-13 says, “seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, Lord, teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.”

I challenge you to execute these five things concerning the will of God for your life and rest assured you will see God do great and mighty things in you and through you. Also, be sure to read a previous article called The Will of God Requires the Word of God and walk in those biblical principles as well.
