We must understand the importance of unity in the Body of Christ. Unity prepares the way for the anointing to flow. The enemy has deceived many into believing that a house divided can still stand when we know in our hearts that the opposite is true. The anointing flows from unity! Psalm 133 says, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing—Life forevermore.”
1. UNITY DEFINED
Psalm 133 makes it clear how good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity. The word unity doesn’t just mean that all of us are in the same building at the same time singing the same songs. It does not mean we are all in the same building listening to the same preaching and responding to the same altar calls. In Hebrew, the word unity means together, along with in close proximity, and in concord either in space or time to have a close association in a relationship. It means alike, all together at once, and coupled together knitted together. Unity as you can see is about relationships. When God sees His children flowing in a proper relationship the anointing begins to flow.
Many in the Body of Christ assume they can just worship God no matter their attitude towards the family of God but that is simply not true. Those who assume that they can worship God no matter what their attitude has been toward the body of Christ do not understand UNITY. The Word of God is clear that we must take the time to address our ought with our brethren not just go through the motions of Christianity as if division is acceptable to God.
Matthew 5:23-24 says, “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”
2. ANOINTING FLOWS FROM UNITY
If the Anointing had a primary ingredient then that ingredient would be unity! Jesus prayed that we would be one as He and the Father are one so that the world may
know that you have sent Me! The unity of the church helps bring validity to the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
John 17:20-23 says, “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who [a]will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”
God is calling His body to work together as one knowing that the full Body of Christ is needed to advance the kingdom of God. When the world sees a divided church we are not attracted to the lost, broken, wounded that need to encounter Jesus through our lives.
3. ANOINTING FLOWS DOWN THE WHOLE BODY
Psalm 133 makes it clear that when brethren dwell together in unity it is like the oil flowing from Aaron’s head, down his robe, and to his feet. This is a prophetic picture of his whole body being anointed. In the New Testament God desires that His children walk in unity and the whole Body of Christ becomes saturated in the anointing.
1 Corinthians 12:12-23 says, For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit, we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty.”
We must understand that the Body of Christ is called to walk in unity because the Lord desires to use every one of His children. When we are unified the anointing that begins with Christ being our head begins to flow down the Body of Christ where each of the members is used by God. Again be sure to watch the video podcast connected to this article that reveals the power of anointing flowing down the Body of Christ until
spiritual eyes begin to see, spiritual ears begin to hear, and the Body of Christ rises up in the unity that God has called them to.
