God desires that His children live a life saturated in the anointing. The anointing upon your life means that you are set apart and consecrated for God’s purpose on earth. Many desire to walk in powerful anointing, refusing to realize that the anointing causes them to live a set apart life. The Old Testament gives insight into God’s desire to anoint the whole Tabernacle. In the New Testament, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and God desires to anoint every part of our lives.

Exodus 30:26-30 says, “With it you shall anoint the tabernacle of meeting, the ark of the testimony, the table and its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the laver and its base. You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them must be holy. And you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister to Me as priests.”

1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”

There is far too much to cover concerning this topic in an article format, so please be sure to listen to the video podcast. In this article, I will quickly list the 7 pieces of furniture that were anointed in the Tabernacle and how they relate to the anointing of your life.

1. THE GATE

The gate by which people could enter the Tabernacle courtyard was to be anointed. There was not a gate on every side. God would never want to paint a picture to generations to come that there are many ways to God. There is only one gate to the anointing—just like there is only one door in the New Testament—and His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus also made it clear that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

John 10:9 says, “I am the Door.”

The anointing will flow freely in the blood-bought believer’s life who realizes there is only one door to heaven—and that this world has nothing for them.

2. THE BRAZEN ALTAR

God told Moses to anoint the Brazen Altar. The brazen altar, or altar of sacrifice, was situated right inside the courtyard upon entering the gate to the Tabernacle. The Hebrew root for altar means “to slay” or “slaughter.” The altar was the place for burning animal sacrifices. It showed the Israelites that the first step for sinful man to approach a holy God was to be cleansed by the blood of an innocent creature. Jesus did this for us at an altar called the Cross of Calvary—so that we could enter in. When we die to self and apply His precious blood, the anointing will begin to flow.

Hebrews 10:19-22 says, “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Matthew 16:24 says, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.’”

3. THE LAVER

God told Moses to anoint the Laver. The laver, or basin, was a large bowl filled with water located halfway between the brazen altar and the Holy Place. The priests were to wash their hands and their feet in it before entering the Holy Place. The laver stood as a reminder that people need cleansing before approaching God. The blood of Jesus that was spilled at the brazen altar would wash our sins away. But there is an anointing to stay clean before God. The anointing will flow in the lives of those who allow themselves to be washed in the water of the Word of God.

Ephesians 5:26 says, “That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.”

4. THE MENORAH

God told Moses to anoint the Menorah. The menorah, also called the “Golden Lampstand” or “Candlestick,” stood at the left side of the Holy Place. The lampstand was the only source of light in the Holy Place, so without it, the priests would have been groping around in the dark. Jesus said that He is the Light of the World and calls His people the light of the world. The anointing flows in our lives when we allow the Holy Spirit to empower us to be the light of the world.

Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

5. THE TABLE OF SHOWBREAD

God told Moses to anoint the Table of Showbread. This was a small table made of acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold. The priests baked the bread with fine flour, and it remained on the table before the Lord for a week. Every Sabbath day the priests would remove it and eat it in the Holy Place, then put fresh bread on the table. Jesus is the Bread of Life! As we dwell in His presence, an anointing begins to flow through our lives. The bread also represents the Word of God.

John 6:35 says, “And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’”

John 15:7 says, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

6. THE ALTAR OF INCENSE

God told Moses to anoint the golden Altar of Incense, which is not to be confused with the brazen altar. This sat in front of the curtain that separated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies. God commanded the priests to burn incense on the golden altar every morning and evening—the same time that the daily burnt offerings were made. The incense was to be left burning continually as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. It symbolized the prayers and intercession of the people going up to God as a sweet fragrance. Those who spend time in prayer will surely walk in the anointing.

Psalm 141:2 says, “Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.”

7. THE ARK OF THE TESTIMONY

God instructed Moses to anoint the Ark of the Testimony, or the Ark of the Covenant. This was the God box in the Tabernacle. It was depicted with facing winged guardians shielding the sacred place of God and served as a picture of the Throne of God. The Ark and the atonement cover (or “Mercy Seat”) on top of it represented the presence, glory, and power of God. Above the Ark, God appeared in His glory in “unapproachable light” (1 Timothy 6:16).

Those who desire to walk in the anointing must understand that the Glory of God awaits our lives. We are to be changed from glory to glory as by the Spirit of the Lord. God promises that His glory will cover the earth in the last days as the waters cover the seas.

2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Habakkuk 2:14 says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
