We know that the dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. During the flood of Noah’s day, he introduced the dove which he would have to trust to be his guide that would lead him out of the storm. The dove is symbolic of how we must be led out of our storms of life by the Holy Spirit. The day you gave your life to Jesus the Holy Spirit regenerated your heart which means you were brought back to life. He sealed you which means you are marked and stamped by the power of the Holy Ghost and He will govern, guard, and guide your life.
Genesis 8:7-12 says, “Then he sent out a raven, which kept going to and fro until the waters had dried up from the earth. He also sent out from himself a dove, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself. And he waited yet another seven days, and again he sent the dove out from the ark. Then the dove came to him in the evening, and behold, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth; and Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth. So he waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove, which did not return to him anymore.”
Matthew 3:16 says, “When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.”
1. YOU MUST KNOW THE DIET OF THE DOVE/HOLY SPIRIT
If we are going to get to a place where we can trust the Holy Ghost dove from above then we must know the diet of a dove. Noah sent out two birds after the storm. One of those birds was a raven and the other bird was a dove. It is interesting to note that two birds when out with two different lifestyles. The raven is a prophetic picture of our flesh (mankind’s sinful nature through the fall of Adam) and the dove is the prophetic picture of the Spirit! The raven flew around and around until the water receded because the diet of a raven was to land on dead carcasses and eat the flesh. It flew until it found a dead carcass that floated to the top of the water. It would eat the flesh and never return to Noah for any level of guidance. The flesh will always desire to please itself and will never be a reliable source of guidance in your life! However, Noah also sent out a dove. The dove on the other hand has a diet that is 99 percent seeds and will not land on flesh. The Holy Spirit will not move in our lives when we live our lives by the flesh. The seed is the Word of God.
Romans 8:6-10 says, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God
dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.”
In Mark 4:13 When Jesus begins to teach us about parables He defines the Word of God as the seed of the Word! Just like the dove lands on the seed and not the flesh! The Holy Spirit lands on the Word of God and not the flesh as He will lead you into all truth. The more Word we get on the inside of us the more seed for the Holy Spirit to move upon. In Matthew 3:16 and Genesis 3:15 Jesus Christ is the Word and the Seed! The Word of God causes the Holy Ghost dove from above to move in your life!
2. THE HOLY SPIRIT DOVE AND THE ANOINTING
Noah sent out the dove and returned with nothing guiding him to the revelation that the water had not receded yet. After 7 days Noah sent out the dove again and it came back with a fresh plucked olive branch. An olive branch is where we get olives. Olives were crushed in the Bible to create oil and this would be part of the recipe for the anointing. The dove bringing Noah the olive branch was a sign that God was anointing Noah to know when it was ok to get off the boat. We must trust the Holy Ghost dove from above to lead us with the anointing into all truth. To anoint means to consecrate and you apart for the glory of God.In the Natural when a dove encounters strange noises he will flee and will come back, but will not return to that spot a third time. This is interesting because the Lord said in Genesis 6:3 that God will not strive with man forever!
John 16:13 says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
Ephesians 4:30 says, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
The word grieve means to resist the Holy Spirit. Resisting the leadership of the Holy Spirit when we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit is a strange noise to God. How can we resist the Holy Spirit when we say Jesus Christ is the Lord of our lives?
1 Thessalonians 5:19 says, “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast to what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”
To quench means to snuff out the Holy Spirit’s flame. This is a strange noise because our heart should be a heart that desires to be on fire for God not put out the Holy Spirit’s flame! We should embrace what The Holy Spirit is doing not reject what he is doing in our lives and the lives of others. The Holy Spirit is like a dove do not startle
him with worldly behavior grieving Him and causing the power of His presence to get up and leave.
3. THE PROPHETIC WINGS AND TAIL FEATHERS OF THE DOVE
There are 9 main feathers on the left wing of the dove, and there are 9 main feathers on the right wing of the dove! The Holy Spirit brings us 9 fruits of the Spirit that we should walk in.
Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.”
The Spirit of God first and foremost calls us to a place to manifest His fruit of the Spirit. The dove of the Holy Spirit desires that we walk in the love of God and the Joy of God peace of God and the patience of God etc. He wants us to soar with Him at another altitude of Holiness! The right wing of the Dove also has 9 feathers to the wing which is symbolic of the 9 main gifts of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11says, “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”
Not only does God want us to trust the fruit of the Holy Spirit we must also trust the gifts of the Holy Spirit! The only way to spiritually soar without falling is to have both wings working. We must walk in the fruit of the Spirit and in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Fruit without gifts is not good and gifts without fruit are not good. A bird cannot fly with one wing, a plane cannot fly with one wing and you cannot spiritually soar with one wing. There are also 5 main tail feathers on the back of the dove. The tail feathers are like the rudder of the ship or the bit in a horse’s mouth that governs the direction. Just like there are 5 tail feathers on a dove there is the 5 fold ministry of authority in the church.
Ephesians 4:11-12 says, “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.”
Just like there are 5 tail feathers to direct the left and right-wing so the dove can soar there is also the 5 fold ministry of the Holy Spirit which is the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher to direct your life through equipping you on the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Those who reject spiritual authority in their lives will certainly struggle to trust the Holy Spirit dove from above that works through the 5 fold ministry that is a gift from God to the body of Christ.
We must trust the Holy Ghost dove from above allowing Him to lead us into the fruit of the Spirit empower us with the gifts of the Spirit and equip us through the 5 fold ministry of the Holy Spirit.
