Beware of the Bewitching of the False Gospel

We live in an hour where the hyper-grace, lukewarm, sugar-coated apostate gospel has infiltrated so many lives and has crept into churches as normalcy. We must guard our hearts against any other gospel other than the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Any other gospel that contradicts the true Gospel of Jesus Christ is a false gospel that prepares the way for the antichrist. The reality is the true gospel is the power of God unto salvation for them that believe and it cannot be compromised at any level and still must produce the fruit of salvation.

Galatians 1:6-7 says, “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.”

Galatians 3:1 says, “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?”

The question is who are you introducing to the lost man because daily the American church is creating a new Jesus that fits the culture of sin?

1. THE FALSE GOSPEL BEWITCHES PEOPLE

Paul said I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel. The word marvel in Greek means to wonder, marvel, amazed and astonished. Paul is stunned that in such a short time the people began removing themselves from their original position in Christ. He was shocked that they turned to another gospel that was presented to the church.

The Bible warns that it is possible to start one way and end another. Many people have started great with sound theology but because of a spirit of deception, they did not believe the same gospel at the end of their lives. You can be transformed by truth and then die one day being deceived by a lie.

Just like the Galatians were receiving a different gospel, many in America and around the globe are embracing a different gospel. A false gospel preaches a false Christ that produces false conversions. The false gospel can come in many forms. For the Galatians it manifested in the form of embracing the law as salvation minimizing Christ. In the last days, the false gospel does not rebuke sin. The false gospel allows people to profess being a Christian with their mouths though there has been no transformation of the heart. They continue to lie, cheat, and steal and say they love Jesus though they do not keep His commandments.

Paul said they turned to another gospel. That word turned in Greek means they transferred, changed, or went over to another party. They deserted the true Gospel and perverted, changed, and corrupted it. Then Paul says, “Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?”

Bewitched is a powerful word because in Greek it means to use a spell or words to fascinate. Many want a false gospel in the last days that presents lies that fascinate people into thinking they can have Jesus and their sins. The word bewitched can also mean to use ill words to slander and malign. The false gospel is slandering and maligning the true Gospel. In context to be bewitched in Greek, it carries the idea of a snake that is charming to a bird drawing it just close enough to devour it.

Allow me to give you 10 quick signs according to Galatians that a bewitching is taking place with the false gospel.

1. They Turned From the True Christ. (Galatians 1:6)

2. They Let False Teachers Pervert The Truth. (Galatians 1:7)

3. They Were Bewitched Through Fascination Of Lies. (Galatians 3:1)

4. They Crucified Christ Anew. (Galatians 3:1)

5. They Attributed Their Gospel Blessings To The Law Of Moses. (Galatians 3:2)

6. They Desired To Be In Bondage. (Galatians 4)

7. They Considered Paul To Be An Enemy For Preaching The Truth. (Galatians 4:16)

8. They Got Zealous About The Wrong Things. (Galatians 4:17-20)

9. They Used Liberty To Commit Sin. (Galatians 5:13)

10. They Began Biting And Devouring One Another. (Galatians 5:15)

3. GOD IS CALLING YOU TO INTRODUCE THE TRUE CHRIST

If you desire to see the lives around you truly transformed with the Gospel of Jesus Christ then you must present the true Gospel to them. Since the beginning of time, the kingdom of hell has sought to use the weapon of deception to pervert the truth. No matter how the culture changes you must remember that the true Gospel of Jesus Christ will never change and must never be compromised.

Romans 13:13-14 says, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
